Abstract

Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) presents established clinical and labora- tory criteria. We present the case of a male adolescent with the onset of severe pediatric systemic Lupus erythematosus, manifested mainly by MAS and how a laboratory marker, serum soluble interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2rs) or altered soluble CD25(CD25s), played a key role in treatment and prognosis of the disease. How- ever, this cytokine receptor is rarely measured in clinical practice.
